Gallery Manager for Galleri Kronan in Norrköping
KONSTNÄRERNAS INTRESSEFÖRENING I NORRKÖPINGÖstergötlands län, Norrköping
Previous experience is desired
Do you want to work with contemporary art at Galleri Kronan in Norrköping?
Our non-profit association, KIFiN (Artists' Interest Association in Norrköping), is looking for a gallery manager for our activities. We have been running exhibitions since 1993.
Galleri Kronan is centrally located by the City Hall in Norrköping in a historic building from the 19th century. The building features many preserved details from its varied history, including its time as a pharmacy. We are looking for someone who wants to create well-functioning public experiences of contemporary art in close collaboration with the association's exhibition group, board, and members.
About the position
As a gallery manager, you work operationally and coordinatively with the association's public activities together with the exhibition group. You plan, produce, implement, and follow up on programs, activities, and events in the association's outward-facing environments. The tasks are primarily carried out in the gallery, but also at other locations when necessary.
The role involves getting many parts to work together: content, audience, technology, hospitality, communication, premises, external participants, and practical details. You are a key link between the exhibition group's work and its implementation, contributing to visitors and participants encountering a professional, secure, and welcoming operation.
The position is 50%.
Responsibilities
The role includes, among other things:
- Contact, book, and coordinate with participating artists and collaborating partners, such as keynote speakers.
- Plan and coordinate the practical prerequisites for the exhibition activities.
- Carry out communication and marketing for exhibitions and events, e.g., by producing and distributing invitations.
- Update the gallery's website and social media.
- Prepare, maintain, and upkeep the gallery premises.
- Open and close the gallery during its opening hours.
- Contribute to a secure, professional, and welcoming hospitality.
- Support the association's outward-facing activities in public contexts.
- Follow up and document implemented exhibitions and events.
- Identify and compile resource requirements and handle purchases.
The work is practical and public-facing. You must be able to prepare the premises before, during, and after exhibitions, including tasks such as painting surfaces, cleaning, and tidying up. The role requires both good organizational skills and practical initiative.
Personal qualities
To thrive in this role, you need to be self-reliant, structured, and confident in taking responsibility for both planning and implementation. You have good collaboration skills and can communicate clearly with the association's members, participants, visitors, and external actors. You are solution-oriented, practical, and flexible in your collaboration with the association's exhibition group and board.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience in creating, producing, and implementing public experiences within contemporary art.
- Experience from, for example, museums, cultural institutions, performing arts, visitor attractions, conference activities, or other public-facing operations.
- Education or experience relevant to the assignment.
It is an advantage if you have experience working with public activities in art environments. It is also an advantage if you have experience working with digital technologies in image and design for print and digital media.
This position suits you if you enjoy art and culture and are interested in creating encounters between art and people.
Open to all
We focus on your competence, not your other prerequisites. We are open to adapting the role or workplace to your needs.
